A focused preparation session can make the next CDL lesson more useful without turning the evening into another long class. Twenty minutes is a suggested planning exercise, not a substitute for required training or adequate study. Use it to reconnect with the feedback you already received.
First five minutes: review the last lesson
Read your recent notes and identify the correction that matters most. Describe it in terms of an action or observation. If the feedback is unclear, write a question for the instructor rather than inventing your own interpretation.
Next ten minutes: study one topic
Review the relevant manual section or approved course material. Close the material and explain the idea in your own words. Write down anything you still cannot explain. Avoid using the session to race through several unrelated practice quizzes.
Final five minutes: prepare the next step
Organize your materials, confirm the lesson time, and check your travel plan. Write one practical goal to discuss with the instructor. Leave room for the instructor to change that goal based on your performance and the conditions of the lesson.
Put it into practice
After the next lesson, compare your preparation goal with what you actually practiced. Keep the parts of the routine that helped and adjust the parts that did not.
