Daimler Recalls Previously Repaired Cascadia and 49X Trucks Again

Daimler Truck North America is recalling more than 2,000 trucks because some vehicles received an incorrect remedy during earlier brake-related recalls. Land Line Media reported the action September 14. The affected population includes certain model-year 2020–2023 Freightliner Cascadia tractors and 2022 Western Star 49X trucks. The federal campaign is identified as NHTSA recall 26V583 and Daimler recall F1039.

The issue involves front-axle brake modulator valves that can corrode. During an electronic stability control or roll stability control braking event, a damaged valve could produce uneven braking and cause the truck to pull to one side, increasing crash risk. According to the report, some 4x2 configurations received a software update under previous campaigns even though they required a hardware replacement.

Dealers will replace the front-axle brake modulator valve at no charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 8. Daimler said it was not aware of unexpected brake-pull events, crashes or injuries within the recalled population when the filing was prepared. That history does not remove the need for the new remedy, and a vehicle previously marked repaired may still be included.

Fleet managers should run every potentially affected VIN through the official NHTSA recall lookup, confirm remedy availability with an authorized dealer and preserve the completed repair record. Do not rely only on model name or an older closed work order. Until service is complete, drivers should follow company instructions and promptly report brake warnings, stability-control alerts or unexpected pulling. The recall is also a useful maintenance lesson: when a safety campaign is revised, fleets need a process to reopen records, locate affected equipment and verify that the latest physical repair—not merely the original campaign status—has been completed.
