Gatik Raises $200 Million to Scale Driverless Middle-Mile Freight

Autonomous carrier Gatik has raised $200 million in Series D financing to expand its driverless middle-mile freight operations from dozens of trucks toward thousands over the coming years. FreightWaves reported the funding announcement August 25. Qatar Investment Authority and Koch Disruptive Technologies led the round, with additional participation from Millennium Management, ARK Invest and Intact Private Capital.

Gatik says it has completed 85,000 fully driverless orders and holds more than $600 million in contracted revenue. The company reports 99% on-time delivery across operations in Texas, Arizona, Arkansas and Canada. Its trucks serve repeat regional routes between distribution centers and retail locations, a more structured operating model than unrestricted long-haul deployment.

The company targets high-frequency routes that can extend up to 400 miles and include both highways and surface streets. Dynamic routing is intended to respond to changing demand and facility activity. Gatik also plans to mass-produce trucks with Isuzu at a South Carolina plant expected to begin operating in late 2027, according to the FreightWaves report.

The investment is evidence of commercial interest, not proof that driverless freight is ready for every lane or operating environment. Scaling will still depend on safety performance, vehicle availability, regulation, insurance, infrastructure and customer acceptance. The announcement does not change CDL requirements for human-operated commercial vehicles. For drivers and fleets, the near-term signal is that repetitive middle-mile networks remain a major automation target. CDL professionals can strengthen their position by building expertise in customer service, inspections, complex urban work, specialized freight and the safe operation of increasingly connected equipment.
