NHTSA Recall Roundup Flags Peterbilt Brake and Ram Camera Defects

A new commercial-vehicle recall roundup highlights safety defects affecting heavy trucks, work vehicles, pickups and vans. FleetOwner reported September 9 that the latest National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notices cover braking, electrical, liftgate, engine and rearview-camera problems across multiple manufacturers. Fleet operators should use each vehicle identification number, not model name alone, to determine whether a unit is included.

For heavy-duty fleets, Paccar is recalling 58 model-year 2027 Peterbilt 548 trucks because incorrectly sized front brake valves and hoses can delay rear service-brake and trailer gladhand application times. The condition does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121. The official NHTSA record lists recall 26V567 and manufacturer campaign 26PACF. Dealers are expected to replace the valves and hoses at no charge, with owner letters planned for October 31.

The largest population in the roundup involves 239,131 model-year 2025-2026 Ram 1500 vehicles. A radio software problem may prevent the rearview image from appearing during a backing event, creating a noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111. NHTSA recall 26V560 says the remedy is an over-the-air or dealer software update, with phased owner notification scheduled to begin September 24.

Fleets should match active VINs against NHTSA records, document inspections and completed remedies, and brief drivers on any interim manufacturer instructions. A recall notice does not automatically mean every similar-looking vehicle is affected, and it should not be treated as proof that a repair has already been performed. Maintenance teams can reduce exposure by assigning a responsible owner for recall monitoring, keeping contact information current and confirming that repaired units are closed in both internal records and the manufacturer's system.
