Roadrunner Adds Canada-to-U.S. LTL Service and 5.9% Rate Increase

Roadrunner has launched outbound less-than-truckload service from Canada to the United States, expanding a network that already handled U.S.-origin freight moving north. FreightWaves reported October 23 that the new service connects Canadian shippers with approximately 40 major U.S. metropolitan markets. The carrier also announced a general rate increase averaging 5.9% across tariff codes and lanes, effective November 2.

The new international service uses direct truck linehaul rather than rail. Roadrunner says its metro-to-metro model reduces handling points and unnecessary transfers while providing faster transit, real-time visibility and clearer accountability. The company operates more than 40 terminals and uses independent drivers within its long-haul LTL network. Exact transit times and service availability will still depend on the origin, destination and customs process.

The rate adjustment reflects the cost side of cross-border expansion. Roadrunner said the increase supports network investment, service quality and efficiency as market conditions raise operating expenses. A 5.9% general increase does not mean every shipment will rise by precisely that amount. Customer contracts, minimum charges, accessorials, freight class and lane-specific pricing can produce different invoice changes.

Shippers should update routing guides and request written quotes before the effective date. Carriers and drivers handling connecting freight should confirm customs responsibility, pickup references, trailer interchange records and proof-of-delivery requirements at every handoff. Cross-border LTL can gain speed when freight avoids extra terminals, but incomplete commercial documents or mismatched shipment details can erase that advantage. Dispatch teams should build realistic border time into appointments and verify whether quoted service includes brokerage, duties, storage or other charges before promising a delivery window.
