Tesla Semi Targets European Deliveries by End of 2027

Tesla plans to demonstrate the Semi with European fleets during the first half of 2027 and is targeting customer deliveries by the end of that year. FreightWaves reported the timeline September 18 from IAA Transportation in Hannover, Germany. The initial European trucks would be built at Tesla's plant near Reno, Nevada, while the company focuses first on its North American launch and evaluates future localization only when demand supports it.

The European configuration is rated for 550 kilometers, about 342 miles, of usable range at a 40-metric-ton gross combination weight. Tesla lists energy consumption at 1 kilowatt-hour per kilometer and says 800-kilowatt charging can restore more than 60% of range in 30 minutes. The tractor uses three axles, two driven, and adapts the North American standard-range platform for European lighting, tachograph, trailer-interface and splash-guard requirements.

Charging infrastructure is part of the rollout. Tesla expects to begin deploying more than 100 European Megacharger stalls in 2027, each capable of 1.2 megawatts. The company also offers a slower 120-kilowatt Basecharger for depots. Tesla says its Semi fleet has accumulated more than 28 million kilometers, with customer trucks accounting for 19 million kilometers and reported uptime of 98% this year.

Those figures and the delivery target are company statements, not guarantees of fleet economics or regulatory approval in every market. Operators comparing electric tractors should model payload, route length, dwell time, charging power, energy price, service coverage and cold-weather performance against their own duty cycles. For drivers and technicians, the announcement signals continued demand for high-voltage safety, charging and diagnostic skills. The important milestone is not a display truck; it is whether demonstrations translate into reliable daily freight service before customer deliveries begin.
