Texas I-30 Projects Add 225 Truck Parking Spaces

Two northeast Texas projects are set to add 225 truck parking spaces along the Interstate 30 freight corridor. FleetOwner reported September 18 that construction is scheduled to begin in October on a $10 million project adding 175 spaces in Bowie County, east of Dallas. A separate weigh-station reconstruction in neighboring Titus County will add 50 more spaces.

The work targets a persistent operational problem for commercial drivers: finding legal parking before available hours expire. Additional capacity near an interstate can reduce the temptation to use ramps, shoulders or unsuitable commercial lots. It may also give drivers more practical options for required breaks, vehicle checks and trip planning on a corridor connecting Dallas with Texarkana and markets farther east.

New spaces will not eliminate parking pressure immediately. Construction timing, temporary closures, lighting, security and real-time availability will determine how useful the facilities are during the transition. Drivers should continue planning more than one stopping option and should verify current conditions through company dispatch resources, navigation tools and posted highway information. A planned facility should never be treated as available until it is open and signed for commercial parking.

Fleets can support safer use by building realistic parking time into dispatch plans and avoiding schedules that require drivers to search after their legal clock is nearly exhausted. CDL students should practice identifying rest areas and truck-safe alternatives before a trip, not only while approaching the end of a shift. The 225-space expansion is a meaningful regional investment, but safe parking still depends on early decisions, accurate route information and respect for posted restrictions.
