Volvo Trucks North America has introduced a Silver Service Contract that combines connected preventive maintenance with repair coverage for major powertrain components. FreightWaves reported October 19 that the plan covers the engine, aftertreatment system, transmission and clutch on the all-new VNL and VNR. It builds on Volvo's Blue contract, which schedules maintenance using vehicle operating data.
Eligible service is available through nearly 400 authorized dealers in the United States and Canada. A designated Volvo Fleet Manager monitors maintenance needs, coordinates service campaigns, recalls and software updates, and can work with another dealer through Volvo Action Service if a truck breaks down away from home. Scheduled work can include valve adjustments, diesel particulate filter cleaning, fluid service and oil changes, depending on contract mileage.
The product arrives as repair and maintenance costs continue to climb. FreightWaves cited ATRI data showing the category increased 8.6% in 2025 to 21.5 cents per mile, up from 19.8 cents. Customers financing through Volvo Financial Services can bundle Silver into the truck payment without interest on the service-plan portion, according to the report.
Important purchasing details remain undisclosed, including contract price, term, mileage limits and how coverage overlaps with the standard vehicle warranty. Fleets should request written exclusions, deductibles, labor terms, covered failure definitions and dealer response expectations before comparing a monthly payment with self-funded repairs. They should also model planned trade cycles and route geography. A service contract can make costs more predictable and consolidate maintenance coordination, but its value depends on utilization, local dealer capacity and the fleet's actual failure history.
