XPO has opened less-than-truckload service centers in Arizona and Missouri, expanding its North American network to 300 terminals. FreightWaves reported the additions October 1. The facilities add capacity around Phoenix and Kansas City, two markets connected to major industrial, population and cross-border freight flows, while increasing the carrier’s local pickup-and-delivery reach.
The Mesa, Arizona, terminal covers 51,000 square feet, includes 86 dock doors and employs more than 100 people. XPO already operates a freight assembly center in the Phoenix market, where industrial investment and trade with Mexico are supporting demand. The Cameron, Missouri, location is approximately 50 miles north of Kansas City. Its 13,000-square-foot building has 32 dock doors and more than 30 employees near the intersection of Interstate 35 and U.S. Route 36.
XPO said it has increased total door capacity by 15% over five years through nearly 35 location openings. The carrier also acquired 28 former Yellow terminals in 2023. Its current network provides direct coverage across 99% of U.S. ZIP codes and supports cross-border service involving Canada and Mexico, according to the company information reported by FreightWaves.
For LTL shippers, terminal density can influence pickup times, linehaul schedules, freight handling and the distance traveled during final delivery. More doors can create useful capacity, but service performance still depends on staffing, trailer availability and how freight is balanced between terminals. Carriers and brokers should review lane-level transit times and appointment coverage instead of assuming a network expansion improves every shipment immediately. Drivers working the new markets should confirm local procedures, dock assignments and route restrictions as the facilities ramp up.
