YardFlow Expands Driver Check-In Automation to More Than 200 Facilities

YardFlow is expanding its automated yard-management platform from 26 facilities to more than 200 sites for an unnamed global beverage company. FreightWaves reported the deal September 19. The system is designed to digitize driver check-in, dock assignment, trailer movement, signed-document collection and check-out across a large distribution network without requiring drivers to install an app.

Drivers can use a web link or optional QR code when they arrive. Gate and yard tools then coordinate appointments, parking locations and dock instructions, while machine-vision cameras can help capture equipment and movement data. YardFlow says its identity checks can compare carrier information with DOT and motor-carrier records, adding another control at facilities where many outside drivers and trailers enter each day.

The vendor says the first 26 locations processed nearly 2 million shipments with 99.9% uptime. A customer analysis found that the sites moved almost 5% more freight with the same headcount after deployment. Those are company-reported results from a specific network, not an independent guarantee that every warehouse will achieve the same throughput, labor savings or uptime.

For CDL drivers, the practical test is whether automation reduces gate lines and confusing handoffs rather than shifting clerical work into the cab. Facilities should provide readable instructions, a staffed exception path and an accessible alternative when a phone, camera or network fails. Fleets should train drivers to verify dock assignments before moving, protect login links from phishing and report data errors promptly. Better yard visibility can reduce dwell and missed appointments, but safe backing, pedestrian awareness and clear communication remain essential even when the gate and paperwork are digital.
