FMCSA Removes 110 CDL Training Schools in Fraud Crackdown

Federal officials have removed 110 commercial driver training schools from FMCSA's Training Provider Registry and proposed removing more than 160 additional providers. Commercial Carrier Journal reported the August 31 action as part of a wider federal effort targeting fraudulent training, testing and licensing practices across the trucking industry.

According to the report, the 110 schools were connected to more than 5,000 drivers who later failed federal English-language proficiency checks. FMCSA also launched a nationwide audit of third-party CDL skills testers, while Homeland Security Investigations served inspection notices involving more than 200 schools across 23 states. The announced enforcement reaches beyond individual drivers to the organizations responsible for preparing and testing entry-level applicants.

The action does not cancel every credential issued by an affected provider, and federal officials had not released a complete public list of the 110 schools when the announcement was covered. Students should avoid relying on social-media lists or assuming that every named school falls into the same enforcement category. Entry-level applicants subject to federal ELDT rules must complete required training through a provider listed on the registry before taking the applicable CDL skills or knowledge test.
